.21Dec2011: MilSciFi.com
interviews Barry K. Nelson, author of the military science fiction novel,
Assassination Anxiety. McKenzie Files-2.
MilSciFi: "Welcome Back.
Please tell us a little something about your new novel."
Nelson: "Thank you. The
new novel is a continuation in the lives of Reploids, Colin McKenzie, Diane
Christy, and Kelly Lytton. This new story takes place just a few months after the
events in the first book. Colin, Diane and Kelly were split up as a team and
placed in menial jobs while the military keeps an eye on them. But that changes
when there痴 an assassination attempt against the President of the United
Protectorate. The attack involves beings with strange and deadly powers. So the
military decides to bring our three heroes back together as a special
investigative unit to deal with the matter. During the investigation they
discover that the attack was staged by a team of third generation Reploids
calling themselves the Enforcers. The Enforcers are designed to be stronger
than Colin, Diane, and Kelly. So it will be a match up to see which side walks
away alive."
MilSciFi: "How does this
relate to the previous novel?"
Nelson: "The relation is
in how my characters, Colin, Diane, and Kelly try to blend in with Human
society when they know that they are different. For example, Colin makes
another attempt to get closer to his family by attending a reunion."
MilSciFi: "What inspired you
to write this story?"
Nelson: "I was very eager
to put these three characters into new situations. This is my X-Men meets Star
trek series."
MilSciFi: "Do you have plans
to continue the series?"
Nelson: "Yes. I plan to
take the McKenzie Files series as far as I can go."
MilSciFi: "As a writer, do
you ever incorporate real world events into your stories?"
Nelson: "Yes. But being a
science fiction writer I also like to put an arcane spin on things. For
example, I知 currently working on a short story collection. I have one story
that deals with the after effects of the Cherynobl disaster."
MilSciFi: "Do you have any advice
on what it takes to be a writer?"
Nelson: "It takes a lot of
patience and perseverance. Especially when you are trying to get published
because you will get so many rejections."
MilSciFi: "Do you have any
other projects in the works?"
Nelson: "Naturally I have
the next installment in the McKenzie Files series. The story will be huge. Going
from Book 3 into book 4. In this story I知 introducing my new villians, Deevor,
Kimdrack, and a new race of aliens called the Guydrans. I知 also introducing a
second Human empire in space. But this one is evil. And I知 still planning my
McKenzie Files prequel story that tells what happened to the Humans that were
left behind on Earth with the Pandora Simplex virus after the uninfected Humans
headed out into space. Before I tackle that project I壇 still like to publish
my WW-2 Horror tale, Dogs of War, sometime next year. I知 going to be very
busy."
MilSciFi: "Thank you, for
your time."
